How to read aloud (speaking question 1)

Sample answer TOEIC speaking 1-2

This is the text from the sample test. To read aloud well, you need to divide the text into short phrases, and you need to PAUSE (話をちょっと止める)a little  between each one. In general, you should pause

  • when you see a comma
  • before a pronoun (代名詞)
  • before a preposition (前置詞)
  • before a conjunction (接続詞)

If you’re shopping, / sightseeing / and running around every minute, / your vacation (/) can seem like hard work. /

You can pause after “vacation” if it’s hard to say the whole phrase “your vacation  can seem like hard work” , but you don’t need to.

To avoid vacation stress, / come to the Blue Valley Inn / on beautiful Lake Mead. /

When you read names of people or places, you should STRESS every word: BLUE VALley INN ….. BEAUTiful LAKE MEAD

While staying at our inn, / you’ll breathe clean country air / as you view spectacular sights. /

“While staying at our inn” is quite short, so you don’t need to pause before the preposition “at” here.

With its spacious rooms, / swimming pool / and many outdoor activities, /the inn is the perfect place / for a vacation (/) you won’t forget.

The Blue Valley Inn prides itself / on the personal attention it provides / to every guest.

Sometimes, if you feel it’s hard to say the whole phrase, you can add extra pauses between the subject (主語) and the verb (動詞)

The Blue Valley motto (/) has always been / “A happy guest (/) is our greatest treasure.”
